Marvin Gaye’s Ain’t That Peculiar + The Verve’s Bittersweet Symphony
The two songs create a beautiful synthesis. Ain’t That Peculiar was recorded in 1965 by American soul musician Marvin Gaye for the Tamla Motown label. The single was produced and written by Smokey Robinson (who also wrote I Want You Back which was sung by Michael Jackson). Ain’t That Peculiar became Gaye’s second U.S. million seller, topping the charts becoming one of Gaye’s signature 1960s recordings and was his best-known solo hit before 1968’s I Heard It Through The Grapevine.
